You are spot on, Bea. When I wrote this post, I was really angry over some personal attacks against me and the very organization I work for. These attacks were done over the anonymity of the interwebs, and I wanted to strike back. So I wrote this.

I'm not angry anymore. In fact, I laugh at how angry I was, because it wasn't helping anyone.

I know my goal, and my goal is to teach people, be kind, and end the slavery of animals by means of veganism. That's basically it in a nutshell.

So thank you. You said it better than I did.

Here's my two cents... I figure animal rights is like a choir - the more voice the better. And like a painting - a pallet using just one color makes for a difficult (and usually unsuccessful) attempt at art.

Everyone has their own strategy and their own way of doing things. Not everyone becomes "vegan" over night... it's a process. I think we do more harm to the animals by the "in-fighting". And we certainly do harm to each other.

If I attempted the "all or nothing" approach with the people I know, I doubt seriously that one would have (reduced) meat consumption let alone... the few who have since eliminated it. It's hard to be patient, everyone wants liberation for animals "now"... but unless we learn to tolerate those making an effort in their own way - we stand the risk of alienating all from our cause.

For me, as long as abolitionism and veganism is the end goal - I work towards that in my own way, and allow others to do the same...
Peace.

I find your post rude. Honestly, what are YOU doing that makes you feel like swearing at people? That is completely uncalled for, no matter what point you're trying to make. And please, just because the anti-welfarists you know don't seem to do anything doesn't mean no anti-welfarists do anything, and it doesn't make criticism wrong. I am doing something, thanks. And I am doing it without promoting welfare, and I am doing it NOW. I can tell you that welfarists FAR outnumber anti-welfarists in terms of having organizations that represent them, just like institutions that exploit animals far outnumber those that oppose exploiting them. Just because someone is more engrossed in something doesn't make them right. Terrible, terrible reasoning.
